Surah Al-Humazah warns against people who slander others behind their backs and mock them openly. It criticizes those who are obsessed with counting their wealth, thinking it will make them immortal. Allah warns such individuals of severe punishment in Hell (Hutamah), a crushing fire. The Surah teaches moral integrity, humility, and accountability for one’s speech and attitude.
Mockery and arrogance stemming from wealth lead to spiritual ruin. Every word and action is accountable.
It promotes ethical behavior, restrains the tongue, and protects the heart from arrogance. Reciting this Surah reminds us of humility, sincerity, and the dangers of pride and backbiting.
104:1–2 – 'Woe to every slanderer and backbiter who collects wealth and counts it...'
Guard your tongue, be humble, and never let wealth blind you.
