Surah Al-Masad condemns the hostile uncle of the Prophet ﷺ, Abu Lahab, and his wife, who opposed Islam with arrogance and cruelty. It highlights how their wealth and status could not save them from divine punishment. His wife, a slanderer and firewood carrier (a metaphor for fueling hostility), will be bound with a rope of palm-fiber in Hell. The Surah affirms that opposition to truth leads to destruction, regardless of worldly power.
Those who oppose divine truth out of arrogance will be punished. Wealth and lineage offer no protection against divine justice.
Reciting it reinforces confidence that enemies of Islam will face justice. It protects the heart from fear of tyrants and strengthens conviction against oppression.
111:1 – 'Perish the hands of Abu Lahab, and perish he!'
Do not be arrogant with wealth or oppose the truth—it leads to ruin.
