Meaning: The Cloaked One
Total Ayahs: 56
Place of Revelation: Mecca
Surah Al-Muddaththir continues the theme of divine commissioning. Addressed as ‘the cloaked one,’ the Prophet ﷺ is urged to arise, warn humanity, purify garments and soil, avoid idolatry, and be patient. The Surah then warns the disbelievers of the severe fate awaiting those who reject the message—scorching fire, humiliation, and eventual judgment that spares none.
The call to prophecy requires purification, courage, and unwavering warning. Denial of truth leads to inevitable doom, while integrity safeguards the soul.
Reciting it encourages soul purification, resilience against rejection, clarity of purpose, and reminds believers of the gravity of their mission and the certainty of divine justice.
74:1–7 – Commands for warning, purification, and patience; 74:8–30 – Warnings to disbelievers about terror of judgment.
Cleanse your inner and outer life, embrace your mission fully, and stand firm against social and spiritual trials.
