Surah Al-Mujadilah opens with the case of Khawlah bint Tha'labah, who pleaded to the Prophet ﷺ about unfair 'zihar' treatment. Allah validated her appeal, forbade the practice, and commanded rules for ethical redemption. The Surah then shifts to broader themes—exposing secret counsel among hypocrites, illustrating their internal corruption and warning believers to avoid such conspiracies. It touches on Allah’s knowledge of private conversations, outlines etiquette for respectful discourse, and ends by asserting Allah’s supreme authority and courtroom-style justice on the Day of Judgment.
Allah listens to all pleas and cares for justice and dignity. Hypocrisy, whispering, and divisive behavior alienate a believer from divine mercy. Sincere communication and integrity are essential.
Reciting it strengthens awareness that Allah hears even the quietest plea, encourages believers to speak up for justice, promotes ethical speech, guards against secret plotting, and nurtures fear of hidden sins.
58:1 "قَدْ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ قَوْلَ الَّتِي تُجَادِلُكَ..." – ‘Allah has indeed heard the one who argues with you...’
Speak out against injustice, avoid backbiting and secret plotting, value transparency, humility, and earnest communication.
