Meaning: The Hypocrites
Total Ayahs: 11
Place of Revelation: Medina
Surah Al-Munafiqun uncovers the spiritual disease of hypocrisy plaguing the nascent Muslim community in Medina. It begins by exposing those who verbalize belief while their hearts conceal disbelief, warning of their schemes against Islam. The Surah outlines their cunning behavior—deception, double-dealing, withholding truth—and the danger they pose from within. In its final verses, it exhorts believers to avert their hearts from hypocritical desires, spend in charity before death overtakes them, and admonishes regretful souls too late for repentance.
Sincerity—between heart and speech—is essential. Hypocrisy corrupts belief and community. Humble charity and honest self-examination protect faith from decay.
Reciting it sharpens awareness of insincerity, nurtures internal honesty, guards against superficial piety, motivates charitable urgency, and warns of the peril of delayed repentance.
63:1 "إِذَا جَاءَكَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ..."; 63:10–11 warnings on charity and the regret of delayed giving.
Align intentions with actions, be wary of internal corruption, and seize opportunities for good before life’s end.
