Surah Ash-Shams swears by a series of polarities—the sun and its radiance, the moon’s brightness, day and night, the soul and its purification or corruption. It stresses that the soul is capable of both good and evil, and true success depends on its purification. It recounts the fate of Thamud, destroyed for corrupting the earth despite clear signs, as a warning and lesson.
Creation reflects divine order; the human soul carries freedom of choice. Its purification through righteous action leads to success; corruption leads to ruin.
Recitation sharpens conscience, supports inner purification, fosters self-discipline, and warns against spiritual neglect. Regular reflection on its verses enhances moral awareness and resilience.
91:7–10 emphasize the soul’s burden and its purification: “And inspired it with its wickedness and its righteousness... successful is he who purifies it.”
Cultivate your soul through conscious effort; recognize that clarity of purpose and moral discipline lead to inner success.
