Meaning: The Divorce
Total Ayahs: 12
Place of Revelation: Medina
Surah At-Talaq provides comprehensive guidance for divorce procedures and post-divorce responsibilities. It outlines legal foundations—waiting (‘iddah), financial provision, respectful housing conditions—and emphasizes the care and rights of divorced women. The Surah reminds believers that Allah is observing and will hold them accountable. It then expands to parenting and spiritual discipline, advising believers to fear Allah, speak wholeheartedly to obey Him, and keep the covenant with the Prophet ﷺ.
Divorce—though permitted—is solemn and regulated. Compassion, provision, and rigorous fairness are integral. Spiritual obedience and moral accountability are inseparable from social conduct.
Recitation cultivates mindfulness of responsibilities during marital transitions, encourages humane treatment, and reinforces God-consciousness at all stages of life, reminding believers that every action is witnessed by Him.
66:1 on oath and repentance; 66:6 on safeguarding selves and families; 66:9 on striving against disobedience.
